Objectives

Students will be able to…

  • Record 15 sounds based on the different characteristics of sounds, including frequency, amplitude, spatial positioning, duration, and texture.

  • Organize the sounds by labeling them by attribute and making a corresponding spreadsheet that describes the sounds in detail.

  • Calculate the wavelength of three sounds given their wave speed and frequency.

Standards

Next Gen Science Standards

  • HS-PS4-1. Use mathematical representations to support a claim regarding relationships among the frequency, wavelength, and speed of waves traveling through various media.

  • MS-PS4-1. Use mathematical representations to describe a simple model for waves that includes how the amplitude of a wave is related to the energy in a wave.

  • MS-PS4-2. Develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials.
