A Parable
The process of recording A Parable was long and arduous — to say the least — but well worth the effort. After genre hopping, name swapping, and lineup morphing for nearly a decade, The Messenger Flood finally settled on all three in order to deliver this loud, emotional epic.
I played bass and piano on this record. This album marked the first time I was able to flex my songwriting skills in on an album, too, with the music for Dream Architect, Wildflower, and All In Your Head being particular highlights. I also arranged the orchestration for Color Me In, taped the knives in Choke, and recorded the clocks heard throughout the album.
What I remember best about recording this album was tracking the drums for the hypnotic title song. Our studio had large windows and so, as we played take after take, we could see the sun set slowly behind us. I can’t describe the sight or the feeling in words with any sort of justice except to say this: there was no place I would’ve rather been in that moment, making music with my best friends.
